In the past - many, many years ago, before I knew the full extent of what I was truly doing, I had a cat declawed. I felt such guilt and remorse over it that I vowed I would never do it again. Consider it like this. If this were done to a human, you would be removing your fingers at a knuckle. If you are doing this because your cat is scratching furniture, etc. , I would suggest trying behavior modification and adding more scratching posts, etc. However, always discuss this option with your vet as he may have alternate suggestions such as nail caps, etc.
